  2. Finally vacation.. or?

After 11 months of work with some holidays here and there it’s finally summer-vacation. Or?

I start my vacation with taking the 2 last days of work free and go to Sweden and go on my grandmothers funeral. And after that it would be only slacking? I think not. Summer-vacation means more time to spend on coding! So of course me and Arood is hacking on W3sidan.net. And instead of working on the new version we’re bringing some of the new functions from the new version to the old version. Huh, this means a lot of work. Because the to two versions are built in very different ways, so it’s like translating one language to another. But it will look awesome in the future.

Right now some of the new things are in place, and soon some more will join them. Like our new short-url-function. http://w3s.se/Idt Awesome!

I really miss my new 27” iMac with a 24” screen beside it though. I dont really like coding on my laptop because I end up using trillions of windows and after a while it’s just getting confusing. So I better go back to Norway soon.

  3. Gothenburg

Right now I’m sitting in my bed at the hotel in Gothenburg watching American Choppers and waiting for the hockey-match between Sweden and Czech Republic. We were just to tired to walk in the city after we got here.

Started with going to the hotel and stash our bags and then went out to get some food before we took a little trip around before we went back to the hotel again and got stuck before the TV. I call it Jetlag *wistles*.

The fun begins tomorrow. Going to meet up @markus at the train-station and then go out in the city and try get some new shoes. I think I really need a new pair.

To bad we left the cable for the camera->laptop, so we cant really take pictures and post them right away. But wait! I got a webcamera.. So this is our view from our room, straight towards the centralstation.

Hopefully more posts under the weekend.

  4. Starcraft 2 Beta on Mac OS X

So Blizzard finally released Starcraft 2 Beta for Mac OS X. I’ve waited some time for this, as well as the Mac-version of Steam.

But right now I’m just pretty sad. It’s true my connection is worthless and thus I can’t play because I get disconnected from time to time. But that’s not the worst part. The worst part is that the Mac-version of Starcraft 2 basically sucks. On windows I can play the game on Ultra-settings without any single problem or hacks of any kind, while on Mac OS X it works poorly on High-settings. And add random hack-spikes sometimes here and there.

I really hope they fix the problem towards the release 27:th of July (hopefully that date), because it would be such a bother to reboot in to windows everytime you want to play. Wich would be quite a lot after release.

  5. Stuck, basically.

I’m somewhat stuck in life, basically, or so it seems. I don’t really know what to do next.

Right now I go to work, work, get home, sit at my computer doing nothing and then go to sleep and then it’s all back to square one. What happend to all the dreams? It’s not that it’s not fun to work in a kindergarden, it’s pretty awesome really. You get to play with kids and get money at the same time. It’s like to be a clown but without the makeup.

But this isn’t really what I want to do. I want to be a web-developer for a living, not just doing free projects on my spare time. And it’s here the problem comes in. I dont have the time, or I think I dont have the time.. basically. And I’m just to tired each day to try learn something new, and I really need to learn new things. Everything changes all the time, better ways to code, new techniques, (x)html->html5, CSS3, other languages that might come in handy later on.

But the thing I need to learn most is how to make time for things like this, not just think “I’ll to it another day”.

I need a coach. And a project where I can try out all the new techniques that I should learn, and not get tired of it, something that is worth coding so it wont just gather dust later on.

Help. I need to get out of this work-at-kindergarden-then-sleep-cycle that I’m in.

  6. Whatpulse

It was many many years ago that I’ve joined WhatPulse, and I’m still active. Sadly though I started with another account that was deleted due to inactivity because I after a while started a second account because I didn’t like the username for the first account. So of course I lost a couple of millions there.

And what is this WhatPulse you might ask? It’s a program that counts (only counts) how many times you press a key as well click your mouse and how far you’ve draged your mouse.

neme-san has been a participant since 2005-11-05 (58 months ago)

Add two years on that, and thats how long I’ve been active on that site.

And it was in late 2009 they finally made the big news. They finally released a client for Mac and Linux. So far there have only been a client for Windows which made it quite hard to be active when you used Linux a couple of times through the years.

And why do I use this? It’s fun to see how much you actually type over the years, even if it’s only on you own computer if you dont install the program on every computer you might touch, and of course, compete with others. And when you’re having a coding-streak you actually see that due the high key-count that week/month.

20,455,167 keys, clicked 6,408,417 times and moved his or her mouse for 329.33 miles.

The numbers might not be that high, but as I’ve said, I had two account where one got deleted and I’ve used GNU/Linux a lot over the years.

  7. The Book-pile

I’m not really what you can call a a book-reader, I rarely read books. And I think I need to read more of them. The last ones I’ve read is Dan Browns, all the Harry PotterThe Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy and the Lord of The Ring books, and this if over a couple of years. So no, I dont really read that much. I just don’t give it any time, I do other things instead, like, posting a post like this.

I’ve recently bought the book-series of Dexter, I really love the tv-show, but I haven’t really had the time to read them yet. Though I’ve started to read the first one now, and I have soon battle through almost half of it. And I like what I’ve read so far in it. It’s nice to see what you miss in the tv-show. As it often is when a book becomes a movie, they cut away very much.

    Bookpile

So that book-pile is my challenge of the year. I know it’s not much, for you maybe, but for me thats like Mount Everest.

For those who can’t understand swedish, the book at the top is Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer. Awesome movie, and I’ve read a couple chapters in it, and it’s quite funny aswell.

And if you have any suggestions that might fall into the same categories that the other books I’ve read and that I might like, feel free to share.
